RAILROAD  ACCIDENT  AT  GOOBIES  STATION
Express  Car  Turns  Over
On November 4, 1996 the Wildcat Limited had a derailment at Goobies station. The first
car behind the engine was the only car involved. There were no injuries to passengers
or crew. As the main line was blocked in both directions the Hoover switcher
had to be summoned to pull the passenger cars back from the wreck site. The engine
on the Limited was not damaged so it ran light to Mitchell. The steam wrecker was
summoned from Mitchell yard and proceeded to Goobies to clear the track. This was
done in a few hours. An investigation by railroad officials determined that the uncoupling
pin on a Kadee coupler had caught the board on the grade crossing into
Houghten Lumber Co. A report was filed with the Railroad Commissioner Office in
Lansing. The only damage done to the express car was a broken step and spoiled meat.
